Intro
Een blogsoap geschreven door @ruudketelaar en @jjvoerman, ontstaan als challenge bij een #blogpraat, waar ambtelijk taalgebruik aan de orde was. Het begint nu aardig uit de hand te lopen, en dat is leuk! Verder is, alweer, het een ’1 in 5′, dat betekent dat ik in het Engels blog. Dat doe ik elk vijfde blog. Het begint in het Nederlands, dat is de soapadministratie en Jacab Jan’s verzoek.

kun jij onderstaande speech zo vertalen dat het echt Amerikaans klinkt. Zo’n master in Oxford blijft toch een beetje hangen. Het accent kan ik nu aardig verdoezelen, maar ik wil niet dat er typisch Engels idioom terug te vinden is.

Beste mensen,
Toen ik jullie vorig jaar moest verlaten deed ik dat met spijt in mijn hart.
Spijt maar geen ongerustheid.
Niet één keer heb ik getwijfeld of INVESTICOM het zou redden.
Niets kon mijn rotsvaste geloof in het voortbestaan,
nee ik moet zeggen het succes van INVESTICOM (pauze voor applaus)
niets kon mijn geloof in het succes van INVESTCOM laten wankelen
NIET de de wankelende markt
NIET de grote merger van onze twee grootste concurenten
NIET de toestand rond de Malediven
NIET de lastercampagne die onze concurrenten via social media daarvan gemaakt hebben
zelfs niet de change of power van ons high command die hierdoor noodzakelijk was.

Waarom?
Vragen jullie je af?
Waarom wist ik dat zo zeker?
Omdat INVESTICOM iets heeft dat niemand anders heeft.
En als ik zeg niemand bedoel ik niemand.
INVESTICOM is hiermee uniek in onze markt.
Als we dit nóg effectiever gaan inzetten zal dit een voorsprong opleveren die ze nog lang zal heugen.
We zullen vanuit onze kleine achterstand onze concurrenten voorbij vliegen.

Wat is het hoor ik iedereen vragen.
Ik zal het niet langer uitstellen.
Nadat ik Richard Franklin bedankt heb voor zijn bewonderingswaardige klus, zal ik het met jullie delen.

Zo, jij durft! Mij een beetje opzadelen met het verzoek om een cultureel sausje te gieten over jouw speech. Zo werkt dat natuurlijk niet. En dacht je nou echt dat ik niet door had dat je probeert mij belachelijk te maken? Kom op zeg! Hoelang kennen wij elkaar nou?
Maar weet je, ik ben heus niet voor één gat te vangen, dus ook niet voor dat van jou! Hieronder gelieve je een ietwat aangepaste speech aan te treffen. Ik hoop dat je nog voldoende tijd hebt om hem je eigen te maken. Want anders zijn de rapen gaar, dat begrijp je! Verder wens ik je natuurlijk alle succes van de wereld!
Speech by the honorable JJ Voerman
To build a strong economy that provides good jobs and rising wages and that reduces poverty, we need to build successful businesses of every kind imaginable. And President of The Board Vriezema has been attacking successful businesses of every kind imaginable.
Apple Computer and Microsoft weren’t started to save the world and neither were General Motors or Alcoa. Nor were some of the companies I helped start like INVESTICOM, Movers Inc or The Sports Wears Out. All of these great American enterprises were started because innovators had great ideas and great ambitions. They became great commercial ventures, which is another way of saying they made a lot of money. Not just for a few people but for many people. They helped people buy homes, go to school, retire, start other companies.
We have always been the country where dreamers build dreams and where one dream helps launch another. And if those dreamers are rewarded with prosperity, we view that as a reason others would be encouraged to dream big as well.
We have to understand that today much of the world is hungry for the big dreamers with big ideas. America must fight to grow these dreamers and innovators, and to attract those from other lands.
My father had a favorite saying: “Nothing is as vulnerable as entrenched success.” Today, because America has been so successful for so long, we seem to have forgotten what brought us here. INVESTICOM has become vulnerable to new competition, to looming debt, and to those who would substitute more government power for more freedom. We have made some bad choices and ignored the mounting threats. We will set that right.
But if the hill is a little steeper before us, we have always been a nation of big steppers.
In this last year, I have been all over this country, from student union cafeterias to kitchen tables, from factory breakrooms to boardrooms, and I’ve heard frustration and anger but rarely hopelessness. Many Americans have given up on this President of the Board but they haven’t ever thought about giving up. Not on themselves. Not on each other. Not on INVESTICOM. And not on America.
We have a sacred duty to restore the promise of America. To restructure our finest businesses at INVESTICOM. And we will do it. We will do it because we believe in America.
This Saturday, join me. Join me in the next step toward that destination of November 26th, when across America we can give a sigh of relief and know that the Promise of America has been kept. The dreamers can dream a little bigger, the help wanted signs can be dusted off, and we can start again. That is what INVESTICOM stands for, no single doubt about that.
And this time we’ll get it right. We’ll stop the days of apologizing for success at home and never again apologize for America abroad. Together we’ll build the greatest America we have ever known, where prosperity is grown and shared, not limited and divided, an America that guarantees that ours is the door that innovation and greatness always knocks on first.
There was a time – not so long ago – when each of us could walk a little taller and stand a little straighter because we had a gift that no one else in the world shared. We were Americans. That meant something different to each of us but it meant something special to all of us. We knew it without question. So did INVESTICOM. And so did the world.
Those days are coming back. That’s our destiny. Join me. Walk together this Saturday. And take another step every day until November 26th.

Kijk, dat is nou een verhaal waar je mee aan kan komen bij een stakeholdersmeeting van INVESTICOM. Daar luisteren ze naar. En laat dat zoete-broodjes-bakken met Richard Franklin maar achterwege. Hij is een vervangbare interim. Goed, maar niet zo goed (ofwel: ‘good, but not that good’). Ik denk dat Mitt Romney jaloers zou zijn op een speech als deze, die had hij best willen houden, die koude dag in maart in Wisconsin. Ben ik zeker van! Anyway, just do it, kid, just do it!
